NATS is the UK’s leading provider of air traffic control services and keeps our skies safe. Each year it handles around 2.4 million flights and 250 million passengers travelling in UK airspace.
NATS has c150 operational sites across the country, housing specialist radar, navigation and communication equipment to monitor and control air traffic in the UK. They are often in very remote locations and require all visitors to be security cleared.

NATS rolled out Britannia Fire’s innovative P50 foam fire extinguisher across all its remote sites in the UK. They are made of composite and don’t corrode like traditional fire extinguishers.
Lasting 20 years, they only need refurbishing once in their lifetime. A refurbishment is done by a skilled Britannia engineer, who empties, pressure tests and refills the extinguisher. They also replace the red outer jacket, which clearly states the expiry date. Britannia has a stock of refurbished extinguishers so they can be swapped out immediately, ensuring continuity of fire safety.

Stuart Lishman, Facilities Manager Remote Sites at NATS explains why they opted for the P50:
“Safety is our top priority across all of our UK sites. Many are situated in remote locations so it’s vital we ensure that efficient and dependable fire safety operations are in place 24/7, 365 days a year. Working with Britannia, we adopted their new P50 fire extinguishers which are far more dependable than traditional steel extinguishers, reducing maintenance and enabling checks as part of routine site inspections. Their team have done an excellent job in servicing many of our sites and the transition process was very smooth.”
